Art in America: 300 Years of Innovation

Art in America: Three Hundred Years of Innovation presents the history and culture of the United States through its art.
Today, I went to the National Art museum with my friends.  A large exhibition "Art in America, 300 Years of Innovation" opened there. It's amasing! This is the first time such a largest exhibition reflecting the development of American art was held in Beijing. The exhibition collected more than 130 pieces of works by nearly 120 artists in the history of American art. The paintings were from the period of the colony in North America in early 18th century to the early 21st century.

    *Babel*

Babel: In the Bible, humans tried to build this famous tower high enough to reach God. Then God got angry and he punished their arrogance by creating different languages, making it difficult and impossible for people to communicate with each other, scattering a confused and disconnected people across the planet. And it’s said that’s why we are talking so many languages all over the world.

4 stories all connected by a single gun, all together became a complex and tragic story----Babel. It’s about lives of humanity around the world and how we truly aren’t all that different.

In Morocco, a trouble married American couple is on vacation. They are trying to communicate with each other.

Meanwhile, a Moroccan buys a rifle for his sons so they can protect their goats from wolves. The boys play with the gun, fire at a passing tour bus and accidentally shoot the American women. It’s assumed to be a terrorist attack by the US government and soon becomes an international incident, reported all over the world.

Back in America, the Mexican nanny decided to take the couple’s 2 children with her across the border to her son’s wedding in Mexico, because she couldn’t find anybody to look after the kids for her. It turns out to be a big trouble on their way back.

In Tokyo, a Japanese girl is dealing with rejection and discrimination because she’s deaf and dumb. Her father is struggling to connect with her since his wife commit suicide by a rifle…

The movie shows just how connected we really are.

No matter which culture, no matter which country, religion, age, social class... All of these characters are at an inability to express themselves, with their husbands, with their wives, with their kids.

We can see that actually language can be very easy to break. The series of misunderstanding was mainly caused by the ideas and preconceptions that they have. That’s what keeps us apart, makes us sad and miserable, increases the impossibility to touch with love and express it. On the contrary, what brings us together is love and comprehension. That makes us the same people living in the world. However, are we brave enough to show our love and how much we really care?

the childish imagination of *Hong Kong Disneyland*

A wonderful trip in Hong Kong Disneyland

Good evening everybody! Today I’ll talk about a wonderful trip in Hong Kong Disneyland.

I took a trip to Hong Kong with my parents. We went there on Feb 25, 2007 during the spring festival. It took us two and a half hours to get there by air from Beijing. The sky was blue and everything was beautiful. It began to rain when we arrived but I am still very happy.

As soon as we arrived in Hong Kong, we visited the Disneyland.

We woke up at about 9:30 in the morning, after finished our breakfast we took a bus to Disneyland. We arrived at Disneyland around 11:00.  Oh! There were so many people and a lot of happy kids! I was very excited! My Mom booked our tickets by internet, so no need to queue.  After got our tickets, we went inside.

Hong Kong Disneyland is a wonderful place! It is made of four parts----the Main street USA, the Adventureland, the Fantasyland, and the Tomorrowland.

First, we went to the Main street USA. The streets here are built to look like streets in the USA in the 1890s. People walk around wearing nineteenth-century clothes. Actually, they are workers in this Disney park. They always smile, and are always friendly and polite to visitors.  I took some pictures with Pooh Bear, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Snow White Princess and the Three Little Pigs there. They are my best friends in Disney’s cartoon films.

Then, we had lunch at Tomorrowland. The Tomorrowland is very interesting. It seems some UFOs have landed there, and You can go into a space ship and drive one too! In the Future House, everything is worked by the computer. If you press one button, a machine will cooks meal for you. I took some pictures with robbers there and my Dad bought me many presents.

After finished the lunch, we went to Fantasyland to play the Flying Elephant and Mad Hatter Tea Cups. Then went to The Golden Mickeys at Disney's Storybook Theater to watch the show. It was wonderful and I was very happy!

It was a pity that we didn’t have enough time to go to the Adventureland, so finally we went back to the Main Street USA and watched the fireworks! It was really beautiful!

This was a special and unforgettable trip, because we spent the Year 2007 in another place. It was wonderful! Hong Kong Disneyland gives us so much fun!

    Thank you!

    考研辛苦了!

    Dear friend,

Today, after you told me your exam result to the graduate school I was overjoyed. Really high scores! CONGRATULATIONS! I know how hard it was for you to prepare for the exam and overcome so many difficulties in another whole year.

Then I’ve been thinking about how much your friendship means to me and I found how lucky am I to know you. We’ve always wanted the best for each other and we’re happy for each other when we reach our respective goals. You make me feel not so all alone even when no one else is around…

I just wanted you to hear this from me: My life is happier because you share it and I’ m so glad I have you for a friend. You are a really tough independent woman and I always wanted to be more like you in this way. So, no matter what is the final result of your exam you are the best in my eyes forever.

May all your dreams come true. May you have exactly what you want.

(Ps: Correct me if there’re any grammar mistakes, etc~)

                                                Love from----Liz
